Photo Diary: Braving Bulgaria

Woken. Naked.
White sheets, white walls, white hosts.
Golden sunbeams
filter through the blinds
and catch my copy of A Thousand Splendid Suns.
It's twice read, something familiar
to ease my liminality
in this strange land.

They told me how rain fell last night,
bringing calm to the sierra.
Vitosha gently hums,
waters streaming against the rock
and leaves
rustling in the breeze.
I learn her melody.

I witness the dewy mountain air
with that of homemade confitures, still warm.
The Sublime, the labour of this old lady's love
takes on a spiritual dimension, for me.
Home, at first light.
